Mountfield
Park Farm Hounds were taken to the pumping station and hunted through the sheep and under the railway - where there were two railway workers waving their hats and cheering us on. They swung left parallel with the railway line and hunted at top speed past the oast house to take their quarry at the garden centre. The second hunt was back across the set aside and up towards Mountfield Court. Hounds swung round the park enabling the field to jump the fallen tree where the day before there had been 20 deer sitting underneath it. Luckily they were not there today. Swinging back down the hill they took the quarry under the railway bridge. Hacking back to Mountfield Park Farm for the third hunt, hounds were laid on in the water meadows and jumping through a gap in the drop hedge the hounds raced to the top of the farm where they checked at a point where the quarry had disturbed numerous deer. On casting round they regained the quarry's line and jumped into the woods and out at the top of the hill. They went down past the farm but the horses could not live with the hounds. They were brought to their noses as they crossed the stream and onto the top of the hill enabling the children to jump the hedges where we had one a casualty, a faller on the flat with a suspected broken collar bone. They crossed the road jumping into Mr Turner's sheep field where they took their quarry hiding in a hole. The main quarry was Chris. It was cloudy with no wind, and the sun appeared later. All in all it was an excellent day for the children with many keen smiling faces who cannot wait to come out again. Tea was taken at Mountfield Farm and was provided by Roz Scott.
