The
Ferry, Stone October 6th, 2002
Hounds met at The Ferry Stone, and a large crowd came to enjoy the opening meet. It was a warm sunny day with little wind and the going was firm. The field were out looking forward to a gentle day to get the horses tuned up for the first full season's hunting for two years. Master Roger Manning was the host for the day. Hounds were laid on near the meet and hunted over the hill behind Priory Farm, coming out onto the roads by the sewer works. They were fast away down towards the Royal Military Canal, where they took their quarry at Knock House. The second hunt was along Stone Cliff. Hounds hunted hard along to the gorse bushes and then climbed to the top of the cliff before taking their quarry before Great Prawls Farm. There was some good post and rails for the horses to jump. The third hunt continued along the cliff. They swung up the hill, to Stocks Farm where the field enjoyed numerous jumps to take the quarry by the Wittersham Road. The fourth hunt stated at Green Acres. They hunted round the edge of the Isle of Oxney, with every field full of sheep who seemed to insist on getting in the way, but the hounds pushed on through to take the quarry on the Lower Road. There was a great tea afterwards at Garry and Rose Turnwell's for all. It was hard day for hounds, with hot conditions and numerous sheep insisting on standing on our quarry's line. Quarry for the day were Chris and Adrian.
